*First aired in 1977 (30mins magazine format, dull yet edgy)
*1993 Top Gear magazine launched
*Top Gear canceled in 2001 due to poor ratings and Clarksons departure. (new host James May was brought in. It didn't help)
*Came back as a 30min, later 45min, TV show called 5th Gear (same producers and most the hosts returned sans Clarkson. Producers wanted the show to be called Top Gear but BBC would not relinquish rights since they had the magazine)
*BBC decides to launch new Top Gear show with Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond in 2002. Uses new hour long format co-developed by Clarkson.
*Perry Mcarthy was "The Stig" for 22 eps. ( we won't spoil who the current one is)
