From multiple reporting sources this morning USF1 has signed 26 year old GP2 driver Jose Maria Lopez from Argentina, to an 8 million dollar sponsorship. But will still need to bring more to the table to complete his sponsorship in order to secure his seat for 2010.
"The agreement with the American team is done," said Carlos Garcia Remohi, an official with the Argentine club. "We have a week to finish collecting the budget."
"To be specific, at this moment we lack about 20% of the budget," Lopez's father confirmed.
So, we here at BSR ask who is this Jose guy? And why would we want him driving for our only US team. Well don’t worry folks I’m here with some dirt dug up on this “fella” here.
Jose Maria Lopez is a former Renault F1 test driver and his experience ranges from Formula 3000 and GP2 in between 2004 and 2006 and only won 1 race during that time in Catalunya during the 2005 season.
He has however won the Formula Renault V6 EuroCup in 2003 and the 2008-2009 TC2000 championships.
So is this our “ideal” young driver? Or even our ideal “experienced” driver? In My Honest Opinion, HELL MOTHERFUCKIN NO! What the hell are Peter and Ken thinking!? Why hasn’t Summerton signed? They’re just adding fuel to my theory that the FIA is trying to deny the kid of a super license and therefore not able to sign on with the team.
I really hope the other seat goes somewhere promising.
