Martini Girl a distraction to the drivers during the Monaco GP?
Apparently some driver's complained about the large billboard advertising the "Martini Girl" in the previous F1 race. "Every time you passed her, it was as though she was looking right at you." -Jenson Button
While Jenson managed well through qualifying and the race, Lewis had another story.. maybe he should keep his eyes on the road. That being said, it's a bit hard to ignore her.. I mean DAYUM!!

Cosworths future in F1...is looking good.

With the potential of missing factory teams next year due the the FIA's new rules and regulations, they (the FIA) has asked Cosworth to develop a low cost engine program for the 2010 race season.
Auto Motor und Sport is also reporting that three other potential new teams for 2010 have also paid deposits for Cosworth power. Would this technically make USGPE the Cosworth factory team for the upcoming season?

Once again! Never cross Ferarri OR ELSE...
"Williams have been temporarily suspended from the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA). It follows Monday’s confirmation that Williams have lodged a formal entry for next year’s championship, despite the ongoing dispute between the teams and the FIA over the 2010 regulations.
“FOTA’s decision, although regrettable, is understandable,” said team principal Frank Williams after the news emerged from a meeting of team bosses in London on Wednesday. “However, as a racing team and a company whose only business is Formula One, with obligations to our partners and our employees, submitting our entry to next year’s championship was unquestionable.
"In addition, we are legally obliged under our contract with FOM and the FIA to participate in the world championship until the end of 2012.”
Teams have until this Friday (May 29) to submit their entries for 2010, but several have suggested they will not do so unless the FIA modifies plans to introduce an optional £40 million budget cap in exchange for more technical freedom.
During last weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix all ten teams wrote to the FIA, requesting that the existing 2009 technical rules be retained for next season to allow more time for the future framing of the Formula One regulations to be considered."

As you can see by the lack of postings, Monaco was a bust.
Although only for us Mclaren folks. Surprised the Ferrari fanboys didn't rave about their P2 and P3 finish. Well raced too.
And I have to say it was the best Monaco race I've seen. As I thought, the new cars with their tuning all over the map, did provide for some good passing and challenges out there. Brawn of course ran their own race but further back it was fun. Kovi now is apparently going for a DNF record.

Mustangs rule the Koni Challenge at Laguna!
Even though the track is considered a BMW track, Mustangs dominated the run at Laguna last week. The GS class is filled with BMW, Porsche and Mustang. It was pretty sweet to see those SOLID AXLE cars just ripping up the other drivers and then on to victory!
Ford is now #1 in the manufactures ranking with this win. They were only 5 points behind going in. Very close and inspirational to say the least.

Hamilton learns another lesson in qualifying.
Regardless I still look forward to a fun race. Kimi did manage to split team Brawn and honestly I expect some passing. Normally Monaco is not a place this happens and the race is won in qualifying but the cars are all so different this season, who knows. I think we will see some action.
I'll just bide my time this season and get ready to stock up on USF1 apparel for next season.

My GEEK moment in Redondo Beach.
Ironic considering the post Marlon just put up. But here it goes....
I found myself in Redondo Beach this evening, an area I've never been. I see this real sexy looking Dodge behind me. Has to be late 50s and just pristine.
I can make out two older men with grey hair in the car. And it's obvious the driver is now pointing at my car and saying something. My license plate does say "HADURV8" so I am use to the smiles and gestures.
Out of fun I start blipping my exhaust, making some noise. The Dodge behind me was pretty loud itself. I then see the person behind me notice and they actually put their hand out the window motioning me to do more. So I do! I am seeing something familiar about the way this person talks and gestures, hmmm.
Anyway, as a stop light approaches the old Dodge rolls along side me and sure enough, it's Jay Leno! He barks out, "Nice Shelby!" I reply rather quickly and nervously, "Thanks! That's a great car! Just one from your garage of endlessly cool cars eh?" He smiles and nods...and that was it.
Simple and short but a lot of fun for me. I've always kept in the back of my head how it would be neat to have an encounter with "Mr. Muscle Car" guy himself one day. I just never thought it would ever happen.
FYI....Leno flashed his brights at some slow ass pickup truck who was bogging us down in the left lane, heh.

Sweet Jesus .. won't you *EVER* learn?!
Article from Autosport
Well .. the "silver lining" to this story is there could be a new team in F1. However, they've decided to bring Mike Gascoyne back!!
How many times does this douche bag have to hit the paddock before someone bans him from the sport all-together? One thing I can't deny, is his talent in design and engineering. His accolades with Tyrell, Jordan, Benetton and Toyota are clear and feathers in his cap.
However, he's #3 on my list of people I want to torture and decapitate .. solely to have their heads on display at each race (Max and Bernie being 1 and 2 respectively). Gascoyne's reputation as a fireband and boat-rocker are just as famous. Just look at his CV. He's pretty much always been released as soon as whichever team he's with starts to perform well. In the case of Force India, even sooner.
Best of luck Litespeed! Here's hoping there's an F1 you can join next year!

Brief update on USGPE from Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson!!
Full Story Here
Pretty much The US car is in the design stage, and they plan to have an actual car on the ground by September. They re-affirmed that they're looking for American drivers to pilot their cars by Peter stating "As far as American drivers are concerned, it is to open a stream that makes it possible for American drivers to look at an alternative to NASCAR, which is a great series in its own right and a wonderful form of motorsport. But if you are a driver who wants to drive on road courses in an open wheel car, there is not a lot of scope in the US given how big that country is. So we will be opening up that whole stream of talent as there are a lot of real talents. We have a shortlist of guys that we are looking at." and Even dropped some names this time "Ryan Hunter-Reay, Jonathan Summerton, Danica Patrick, Graham Rahal and A.J. Allmendinger" and also some junior drivers competing in Europe like "Gaby Chavez, Alex Rossi (World BMW champion last year), Conor Daly, and Josef Newgarden, who is winning in England right now".
There's going to be some deep competition for those 2 seats.
To re-affirm that this is an AMERICAN team "The two options are in fact - Cosworth or anything else." AMERICA!!!!! FUCK YEAH!!!!! I'm hoping it's the latter of the 2.
If everything falls in place the way it should, were looking at having a full car for us to drool over by "November/December".
Exciting times.

Mercedes to throw it's weight behind the Brawn TEAM??
We all know Brawn GP has been dominant from the start, even lapping Hamilton's car in the last race. It was only a matter of time...

The downward spiral continues

Yesterday, sitting in shock and disbelief, I watched as Team Ferrari flushed another opportunity down the toilet simply because no one had bothered to pick up a calculator. Felipe Massa, who drove a stunning race, despite his seat in sub-par machinery (yeah, I said it), was robbed of two places because of a “fuel problem.” Yes, that is what he was forced to say in the press conference. The problem in fact was that the team neglected to put enough fuel in his car.
Add to this travesty, another car failure, as poor Kimi Raikkonen was forced to end his half hearted meandering around the race course.
Hard to believe I am a Ferrari fan, isn’t it?
My dear Ferrari, with this despicable teamwork and these horrible engineering issues, you have certainly proven to the world that Brawn, Todt, and Schumi made you what you were. At this point I can only imagine a bunch of halfwit morons running aimlessly around a garage throwing parts at a chassis to see what will stick.
You smelly bastards have one more chance to get your heads out of your asses and put together some teamwork or I will be wearing a different hat to the races.
P.S. I am tired of poor Barichello constantly getting it shoved up his pooper. He did not deserve it when he was forced to let Schumi by years ago, and he did not deserve this bullshit 3rd pit stop either. Shame.

Once again....engineers are exposed as FAILS.
Man this is getting old. This is like when Ford came to LeMans and wiped the floor using Ferrari as the mop with their GT40s. Brawn and Red Bull are just completely on board the A-Train.
This season exposes how incredibly important engineering truly is. You cannot simply try and skew perspective to the driver being at fault. (well except maybe for Kimi) You have some of the best drivers in the series racing at the back of the pack! This is down right embarrassing for Mclaren, BMW and Ferrari engineers.
Take your face slap and don't count on next year being any easier. As we have more new rules and now apparently TWO USA BASED TEAMS coming!

Brawn and Red Bull once again...
I have to say that was an IMPRESSIVE Q3 for Button. WOW. His dad nearly had a heart attack as well. Always good to see victory like that!
Now we need Barry to retire and let Hamilton run with Brawn. ;)

What's the world of F1 coming to!?!?
No refueling next year?
Budget caps?
Ferrari could bail?
Mosley says we don't need Ferrari?
A team sponsored by disposable cell phones is number one?
What the hell?

The Racing Tales of Q...
I normally don't and didn't plan on posting my many exciting street racing tales but this one was rather epic. Or maybe it seemed that way since it happened while on my way in to work.
I generally take the twisty and fun Sepulveda pass over the hill from the valley to the 310. It's one of those delights that makes my journey bearable every day. A nice little bit of "road therapy."
So today I was on my lazy Sunday drive stuck behind a four-pack of Blue Hairs. I tuned out and cruised along with them. Then out of nowhere-coming the other direction-is this BMW 135i doing about 75mph or so. I mean he his BLAZING. The car is in a full flat lean in the turn. I say to myself, "wow, good for him, have at it." I then continue on my slow way waiting for a gap in the geezer pack to finally break free.
Moments later I finally get my gap, however just as I am going to pass I check my mirrors and low-and-behold that same 135i is right behind me. He came out of NOWHERE once again. Except now he is on the tail of the one and only.....Extreme. It was time for some school.
I dump to second gear and the might and power of a Detroit V8 comes to life. I'm thrown back in to my seat as I power through the first series of esses. The 135i is already starting to fall back but he his giving it his all. All four of my tires are howling as they clammer for grip where ever they can find it. I keep the car in its lane as much as possible. Not trying to find "lines and apexes" on this surface street for now. This of course puts physics against me even more and slows me but I stick the car in to the turns with haste.
As we exit the esses and approach the tunnel the gap has shrunk a tad but then the straight of the tunnel allows a quick shift to 4th and thus gives the screaming near redlining V8 a breather. I pull further ahead.
As we exit the tunnel the light ahead turns red and signals the end of our run. We both come to a stop at the light...let the exchanges begin.
Before I can even say anything, the young fit looking individual starts talking....I'm paraphasing a bit here from memory....
"Holy shit! Dude! I did not--I mean I've never seen a Mustang do that! I didn't think that car could do that! How did-you were just glued-I really have never seen that before, I'm blown away! What do you have in that thing?! (I reply "just the V8") Oh wow-nice-yeah your car looks amazing, I mean look at that thing it's just mean! Nice wheels and I see you got brakes too! Wow, just impressed man I did not think a Mustang--I mean you had me. This is my first BMW but I've always had sports cars...I am just shocked man. When the light turns green you just go ahead and I'll let you take the next turn...have a great weekend!"
I make my comments on how cool his car is and that he did pick a good first BMW. I love the 135i and was thinking of one myself. I tell him I am done and want to just chill, though. Just go ahead. The light turns green and off he goes at an insane speed.
I tell you, this event made coming in to work today all the more tolerable. I love my car and I love Sepulveda.

Honoring the Legend

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the death of Ayrton Senna. He was everyone's favorite and we all miss him. What more can I say that hasn't already been said? Formula1.com sums up his career pretty well.
What better than his pole winning lap from the 1991 Monaco GP to remember how great he really was?
